In Search of Josephine - Part 2/2 (2012)
Would Napoleon have become emperor without Josephine? This two-part documentary revisits the life of a remarkably modern woman, from her childhood in Martinique to her coronation at age 41 at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and her death ten years later from a simple case of tonsillitis at her Château de Malmaison. We follow in the footsteps of the beautiful Creole woman in France and Italy and discover a character far more complex and interesting than the one described by her early historians. Using historical reenactments, paintings, and engravings, the film brings to life the highlights of an almost unbelievable existence that saw her survive a devastating hurricane, a death sentence, a cannonade, a fall from a balcony, and an assassination attempt. Josephine continues to fascinate millions of people around the world, not only because she was the wife of the most famous Frenchman abroad, but also because her life, full of drama and grandeur, surpassed in many ways what even the greatest fictional films have ever imagined.
