Info: Ardbeg Smoketrails released a while ago but was only available in international airport duty free shops and the distillery. On the way to Germany I was able to snag a bottle. The bottle was sold only as 1 liter at 46% - at least for the manzanilla version. There is a Cote Rotie that I have yet to try which seems to have spicer and darker notes.
Notes: Tar, burnt oak, caramelized brown sugar, pomegranate, hints of seawater and pretzels. (I got mostly the burnt oak, smoke, and stone fruit with more of an apricot taste).
I find this as a good entry into the peated scotch market, where some other Ardbegs may be "too" smoky for some. This is a good easy going, not overly complex or assault of the senses in terms of complexity.
I paid 89.90 Euros for this bottle at LHR
