Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson & Mark Rapp present the music of “Sweet Pappa” Lou Donaldson
For Two Nights in June 2015, trumpeter Mark Rapp and alto-saxophone great Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson presented Mark Rapp's CD "Good Eats" at two of New Orleans' premier jazz clubs: Prime Example Jazz Club and Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro. Recognizing Sweet Papa Lou Donaldson as one of the pivotal composer/bandleaders of the modern era, trumpeter Mark Rapp’s CD “Good Eats” (released 2011 on Dinemec Jazz, a Swiss Jazz label) reinvents a few of his best gems adding a few flavorful bites of their own.

Alto saxophonist Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson needs no introduction. In 1988, he became a member of Wynton Marsalis’ Septet, with which he toured and recorded for seven years, and has been a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra since it began touring in 1992.
Anderson has recorded and released three solo albums, entitled “Warmdaddy in the Garden of Swing”, “The Ways of Warmdaddy”, and “Live at the Village Vanguard”. In addition to his vast professional performance experience, Wess is also a frequent participant in Jazz at Lincoln Center educational events, served on the faculty of the Juilliard Institute for Jazz Studies and Michigan State University College of Music jazz studies program. In short, Wess Anderson is a formidable force in jazz and virtually a legend in his own time.
Trumpeter Mark Rapp left New Orleans in 2000 having graduated with a Masters in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans under the tutelage of Ellis Marsalis. During his time in New Orleans, Rapp was a member of Quintology, The New World Funk Ensemble and The Flavor Kings, voted as a “People to Watch” by New Orleans Magazine and with Quintology won the Jazz Kings Competition held on Lundi Gras at Spanish Plaza both years it was held. The studio time included among the prizes offered the group the chance to record it’s CD, which included liner notes by Nicholas Payton.
In the 15 years that Rapp has been away, he has recorded 4 CDs and was featured on Disney Jazz’s “Everybody Wants to be a Cat” alongside Dave Brubeck, Roy Hargrove, Esperanza Spalding, The Bad Plus and Joshua Redman to name a few. Rapp has played the Newport Jazz Festival, featured on a Travel Channel documentary on the festival and a year prior to his debut CD release, he was named one of the Top 25 Rising trumpeters by DownBeat Magazine. Rapp has toured and lived around the world from Brazil, Croatia, Switzerland to New York City and has been represented by some top jazz managers and booking agencies including Michael Kline Artists, AMI and Gail Boyd Artists. Mark has been guest soloist with Big Bands, recorded as a special guest artist on CDs, played in the United Nations Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with many jazz greats including bassist James Genus (Herbie Hancock, Brecker Brothers, Aretha Franklin), Walter Blanding Jr, Gerald Clayton, Don Braden, Wycliffe Gordon, Sachal Vasandani, Nate Smith, Clerence Penn, Delfeayo Marsalis, Branford Marsalis to pop artist Darius Rucker.
Joining “Warmdaddy” and Rapp will be Rapp’s Quintology bandmate Charlie Dennard on the Hammond B3 organ and a new to New Orleans, the very dynamic and exciting drummer, Brendan Bull.
