One of the big draws of the Rolling Thunder Revue was that Bob Dylan and Joan Baez were performing together again for the first time in ten years. They began their set together with the stage lights down - we couldn’t see them on the stage, but we could hear their two voices singing Dylan’s most anthemic protest song: “Blowin’ in the Wind.” Needless to say, the crowd was pleased.
I saw Bob Dylan and the Rolling Thunder Revue in Augusta, Maine on November 26th, 1976. I was thirteen years old, and went with my two older sisters. It was the very first rock concert I ever attended. I had always assumed that my only memento of the event would be the uncertain grasp of memory. I was pleasantly surprised recently when I came across a recording of the show online. The sound quality isn’t great: it was recorded with a mid-1970s microphone and cassette player by a member of the audience. Nonetheless, you can still get a good sense of what an outstanding show it was.
