Roger McGuinn:
01. Eight Miles High (Gene Clark, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby)
02. (4:04) Chestnut Mare (Roger McGuinn/Jacques Levy)

Joan Baez & Roger McGuinn:
03. (9:14) The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down (Robbie Robertson)

There are a lot of things I remember from this concert, but I would never have remembered that Roger McGuinn was there. And yet he was. Interestingly, he didn’t perform any Byrds songs from their Dylanesque period. Here he performs “8 Miles High” and “Chestnut Mare.” Then Joan Baez returns and he joins her for “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down” (I do remember Joan singing this song quite well; I just didn’t remember that Roger was there with her).

I saw Bob Dylan and the Rolling Thunder Revue in Augusta, Maine on November 26th, 1976. I was thirteen years old, and went with my two older sisters. It was the very first rock concert I ever attended. I had always assumed that my only memento of the event would be the uncertain grasp of memory. I was pleasantly surprised recently when I came across a recording of the show online. The sound quality isn’t great: it was recorded with a mid-1970s microphone and cassette player by a member of the audience. Nonetheless, you can still get a good sense of what an outstanding show it was.
