Profiles in Patient Courage is my attempt to provide patients a way to tell their own story about their condition. When I do brain surgery, I want patients to walk in and walk out without their brain knowing I was even there. Listen to her story.
In this video, I interview my patient a young mother who has a tumor situated in the pineal gland. Renee Descartes believed that this unpaired structure represented the seat of the soul.
Meningiomas are known to express estrogen and progesterone receptors. We believe that exposure to these hormones may trigger meningiomas to grow and to cause symptoms.
I am Dr. John Y.K. Lee, MD, MSCE, professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania, and I have been practicing at Penn since 2006. However, the information provided here is NOT sponsored by the University of Pennsylvania.
