Tanks with chemical solutions in which bodies float, deep-frozen people who are brought back to life in the future – we've seen this in sci-fi movies, but will it ever become reality?

In this episode, Lisa-Sophie meets Dr. Emil Kendziorra, who not only believes that this will eventually be possible thanks to cryonics, but is already offering his company's customers cryopreservation. This is what it's called when people are essentially frozen after their death, in the hope that it will be possible in the future to revive them and cure diseases that can't be treated today or to replace organs that no longer function.

And that's exactly what people who currently choose postmortem freezing are betting on. After their death has been clinically confirmed, they are preserved in large storage tanks filled with liquid nitrogen, so-called "Dewars," with no guarantee that they will ever actually be revived.

In this film from our series "What Happens to Us After Death?" you'll learn exactly how it works, why people choose it, what the procedure costs, what the critical points are, what is legally permitted, and whether Lisa-Sophie could imagine cryopreservation.

This film is for educational purposes.

This is #TheQuestion:
There are questions that have no easy answers. Why do we bully? Do we drink too much? Or: What does porn do to us? We are interested in questions that are important to all of us and are often only discussed superficially.

"The Question" explores situations and conversations that touch us, trigger something in us, or inspire us. We seek different perspectives and provide in-depth information.
