Macintosh Portable (Model No. 5120 non-backlit) Project Introduction
I picked this up off the curb on garbage night over 10 years ago right down the street from my house. To think that someone was throwing this 16lb beauty out! It came with the stock AC adapter and official Apple carrying case with all four feet along with the expansion cards you see in the video. The motherboard was in dire need of replacement capacitors. All of the caps were leaking and the machine would boot up to a sad Mac.
The machine still needs a replacement hard drive, new battery cells, and the floppy drive lubricated. After that it should be good to go. Apple's MSRP for this unit back in 1989 was a whopping $6700! At the time (2001-02ish?), I was thinking about using this for note taking in college if it worked. It would have been highly impractical, but it certainly would have turned some heads.
