Besides fixing a tremendous swath of repeat issues and user-reported bugs by replacing problematic areas (such as the 2017 GIS engine) with whole-scale replacements engineered from the ground-up, WSV3 V6.0 will also debut "new features" directly improving common user experience. This isolated clip, which does not attempt to highlight even 5% of what is new, significant, or changed with V6.0, debuts a revolutionary new feature called "extrema labeling" or "min/max detection". All existing raster layers which operate in the Probe tool will have real-time-updating, view-dependent minimum and maximum value labels automatically positioned and updating in real-time with animated loops and camera view motions.

A novel, high-efficiency GPU rendering technique was developed for this technique using Direct3D 11 and commodity hardware. This feature would normally be highly computationally expensive to implement using traditional CPU techniques, however, the rewritten sophisticated Probe tool implementation method for V6.0 uses a GPU-based, pixel-shader-based method that requires zero additional CPU overhead and very little GPU overhead.

This feature is expected to transform the WSV3 user experience and become a trademark, distinguishing staple of WSV3's graphical display of raster weather data layers. The real-time nature of the min/max labeling allows users to peruse datasets over different areas/zoom-levels, and instantly get a visual indication of both the position and numerical quantification of data values within said view. This gives the user a full understanding and mental cognition of the raster data values much more quickly than would otherwise be necessary; the min/max labeling essentially immediately gives the user the information they would have to otherwise obtain by manually inspecting raster datasets for min/max values graphically, and then using the Probe tool to place manual cursor-point numerical samples at said points.
