The Masking Bug is the masking tool to reach for when you need to mask a larger area of your photo. The Masking Bug offers several different shapes. This video takes a deep dive into the Reflected Gradient shape. The Reflected Gradient shape is similar to a gradient tool in that you can set the point of transition, the angle, the opacity and the feather of the mask. What makes the Reflected Gradient special is there are independent controls for the transition and feather for each side of the gradient mask. See it in action in this video.
When should I use the Reflected Gradient? The Reflected Gradient is the masking bug shape to use when you need to treat a larger horizontal or vertical area of a photo that is not at the edge of your frame. For example, a subject like a mountain range with sky above and land below.
