I use a lot of masks in my post-processing. Masking tools in Lightroom keep getting better and better - and they make complex masking jobs far more approachable than just a few years ago. As advanced as the masks are, you the photographer still need to bring your intelligence and understanding of the natural world to make the best use of masks to shape light, shadow, and depth in your images.

In this video, I share a photo of Thor’s Hammer in Bryce National Park that shows both how powerful the masks in Lightroom are when used together, and when the photographer needs to step in and make further adjustments to get the most natural look.
