World's Largest Covered Porch Swing in 8K
World's Largest Covered Porch Swing sits in Roosevelt Park, Hebron Nebraska. When the town was started it didn't have this park in the plans. The 1897 fire map shows it was divided into 6 parcels. As you can see there was buildings sitting on some of the lots.
7 years later in the 1904 fire map you can see a lot of the buildings are gone, and we have Hebron Lumber Company put up a big building. That building didn't last long.
8 years later in the 1912 fire map you can see that the Hebron Lumber Company big building is gone. We have a city park with a fountain, and a concrete band stand.
May 9th 1953 a tornado riped though the town. I'm sure the park lost trees as it was on the path of the tornado along with many other buildings. I think that the destruction of the tornado could be a video all by itself. I will show you the path the tornado took across town.
World’s Largest Covered Porch Swing started in 1985. It started from a junk pile at the Reinke Manufacturing. Started from a section of a center pivot irrigation frame that forms the top girder it was from CornerGator. I little different from the ones you problem have seen as you drive by a irrigated field with a center pivot irrigation frame. As you can see it holds up the 32 feet long seat for 24 children, or 18 adults to sit on.
It took $240 to build not including the donated parts and labor. At today prices with inflation in 2021 it would of be $600.43.
It was moved in 1991 to Roosevelt Park where we see it swing now, it was located from the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp.
In June 1, 2016 in a proclamation signed by Gov. Pete Ricketts at the State Capitol. Hebron is now "Nebraska's Porch Swing Capital."
