Highlights from the 2023 Mad Hatter Holiday Festival & Parade, held Dec. 2 in downtown Vallejo, Calif. It's a holiday celebration like no other, with zany art cars and Burning Man projects in addition to participation by local community groups.
Vallejo is the home of Obtainium Works, the steampunk art studio that produced many of the vehicles seen in the parade. But the event also featured vehicles and art installations by other makers, including:
Rhino Redemption by Kevin Clark
Golden Mean Snail Art Car by Jon Sarriugarte and Kyrsten Mate
Dragon Wagon and Flaming Feathers by Flaming Lotus Girls
Rachetfish and Mechateuthis (giant squid) by Barry Crawford
Steampunk airship by the Airpusher Collective (the stage seen near the end)
The Holy Bike by Keith Young
Obtainium Works vehicles include the Drivable Teapot, Magic Lamp, Chairway to Heaven, and Santa's Rudolph 5000 steampunk rocket sleigh. Obtainium Works also made the Cheshire Cat for a local theatrical production.
Music by Piccadilly Circus/Pond5 and The Piano Lady/Pond5
