Underground mining at great depths is associated with the presence of high stresses in the surrounding workings in many. With the progress of mining and ever greater deposit depths, significant changes in stress and strain conditions have been observed. Such phenomena may lead to the occurrence of seismic events, rock bursts and roof falls. Therefore proper evaluation of working stability is one of the best ways to mitigate these risks.

This case study illustrates the possibilities of reliable evaluation of underground workings stability with the use of the 3D Finite Element Method in GTS NX software.
