Percutaneous nephrostomy is an established interventional radiology procedure. Procedure indications are increased during the past years; this increase is the consequence of technological advancement and of the improvement of procedural technique over the years; in addiction, the diffusion of robotic and laparoscopic surgery increased ureteral iatrogenic injuries in respect to laparotomy. The use of ultrasound during puncture of the excretory system significantly reduces the risk of bleeding and average procedural and fluoroscopic time. During nephrostomy tube placement procedure, fluoroscopic control minimizes renal trauma and identifies the best release site.
