Why Perez Doesn't Seem To Care About Red Bull Axing Rumours
The race in Silverstone marked the 5th race in a row where Red Bull’s Sergio Perez failed to make it into Q3. Unlike in Austria, Checo couldn’t recover to a podium finish in the race and had to settle for 6th place. This has made the rumours of Checo’s place in Red Bull being at risk stronger. Checo Nonchalant In The Face Of Increasing Rumours Of Red Bull Axe
These rumours were sent into overdrive when teammate and championship leader Max Verstappen made these comments about Perez after qualifying in the UK
“I don't know why it went wrong, but of course, with our car you have to get into Q3”
“We are fighting for the team championship, but I think I can do that alone at the moment”
After the race, Perez gave his thoughts on all the speculation
“I couldn't care less if I'm honest about that. In F1 in 13 years I've seen it all”
“[I'm] not worried about any of that, I'm mainly focused about getting my season back on track and making sure I keep enjoying this”
He then suggested that the team is still fully behind him
“I have full support from Helmut [Marko] and Christian [Horner], the whole team is fully supporting me”
“They know what I can do, they know my potential, and they are fully behind me”
He then delved into why he has been struggling in the last few races
“I think it’s just [the] amount of detail”
“I have become a little bit more sensitive to the car in the last few races, especially on a Saturday, on low fuel”
“Something that I’m going to be working on in the simulator with the team”
He further spoke about the challenges of finding a solution
“We have some ideas, but we operate in such a small window of detail that, yeah, I mean, you know, just that we need a strong Saturday”
“The positive thing is the pace is there on Sundays where the points are given but we have to sort out and have a clean weekend because the pace is there”
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner gave his views on Checo’s struggles
“He’s just got to sort his qualifying out on the Saturday and as a team, we’ll do our best to support him on that”
“At the moment, he’s running second in the championship and he’s extended his lead over Fernando”
“We’ve got a good car, but we’ve got to make sure that we’ve got both cars in contention”
Reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo is being suggested as a looming threat. Horner signed off by shutting down those rumours
“[Promoting Ricciardo to the race team] is not something that we're planning, that's for certain”
