In the West, tea is categorized into 6 main types: green, yellow, white, oolong, black, and dark. However, in the East, the categories are green, yellow, white, oolong, red, and black. What western cultures refer to as black tea is called hong cha 紅茶 or “red tea” in the east. The title of red is in reference to the brilliant color of the tea infusion liquor after brewing, rather than the color of the dried leaf.
