Uncle Sam is in the pantry
To get head start on dessert
Cousin sue is in the bathroom
To get the stain off Stewie's shirt
Mama's steaming in the kitchen
Peeling chestnuts by the score
Harlan’s ghost is at the table
Won’t hear his dad jokes anymore
Though the blood under our feet
Makes this day at best so bittersweet
Still i feel compelled to say
That though it can’t be be overstated
That turkeys overrated
Happy Thanksgiving anyway
Sometimes a single malt will stir a memory
Sometimes a push will come to shove
There is fact and there is family
Lies can coexist with love
Some were elated in November
Some are sure the the end is nigh
Somehow we still can sit together
And meet each other eye to eye
All the blood under our feet
Makes this day at best so bittersweet

Roast turkeys overrated
