How Do You Make A Star Wars?
The Mandalorian is back for Season 2, which merited a re-watch of Season 1. But Upon my re-watch I came to appreciate that the essence of the Mandalorian goes beyond that of the typical Star Wars show. The Mandalorian Honors Star Wars. There is never a wasted reference, the technical work perfectly blends CGI and practical effects. The show feels Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, and everyone else who had a hand in its creation were able to look at all the Star Wars content that came before and keep what worked while getting rid of the rest. And even though I don't know what the future of the show will hold. It feels like it is in good hands.
So to share my insights in this video I examine the Story, References, and structure to appreciate how the Mandalorian encapsulates and honors Star Wars. I am talking pastiche, homages, the Hero's Journey, ship design, puppet work, and references (and I didn't even have time to get to the music).
