KRUJA (Krujë) is a significant place for every Albanian and one of the most visited destinations in Albania. Here you can dive deep into Albanian history!
To fully understand Albanian history, you must be familiar with the name SKANDERBEG. It was in Kruja where Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg, the greatest national hero of Albania, raised the Albanian flag for the first time on November 28, 1443. 🇦🇱
And it was in Kruja where Skanderbeg defended the region of Albania against the Ottoman Empire for more than 25 years. The famous castle of Kruja is a symbol of this Albanian resistance.
Kruja Castle, together with the National Skanderbeg Museum (Muzeu Kombëtar Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu) located inside it, represents one of the most treasured monuments and architectural complexes in Albania. The museum commemorates Skanderbeg's life and wars.
And the Old Bazaar of Kruja is one of the most famous bazaars in Albania. Traditional handicrafts are offered in the narrow, cobblestone alleys of it.
The city is beautifully situated in the mountains at an altitude of over 600 meters above sea level, and you can enjoy a picturesque panoramic view from the top.
Kruja is located just an hour's drive (32 km) from Tirana in north-central Albania and is also perfect for a day trip from Tirana! A great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the Albanian capital.
We can say that Kruja is worth a visit as one of the TOP SIGHTS IN ALBANIA and a must for anyone interested in history!

👩🏼🧔🏻 WHO ARE WE?
Hello! We're Nicole from Austria/Germany and Roberto from Switzerland/Italy! We believe that traveling is more than just sightseeing! When we travel, we look for spontaneous and AUTHENTIC ENCOUNTERS with THE LOCAL LIFE (and local people of all backgrounds) in other cultures, the country (nature, villages, cities) and the food. Our travels are about uncovering the REAL & UNSCRIPTED LIFE in each destination, with all its sunny & shady sides! We try to find out what really makes each country unique, beyond the postcard-perfect images.
Thank you for being a cherished part of this journey! It means everything to us.
