It's now officially spelled "Türkiye" as part of the country's effort to establish a more powerful image on the world stage. This change was requested by President Erdogan, who wants other countries to start using the new spelling. In the summer of 2022, the United Nations agreed to the change. The reason behind this move is to distance the country from the bird "turkey" and negative connotations that may be associated with the word. This is all part of Turkey's push for a stronger and more positive image on the global stage.

❗️This video was recorded a few weeks prior to the devastating earthquakes that struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria in February 2023. The loss of almost 60,000 lives and over 100,000 injuries is a tragedy that deeply saddens us. Our hearts go out to all those affected! It's important to note that Bursa, the city we show you in this video, was not impacted by the earthquakes. It's located in the northwestern part of the country, far from the affected areas.
