This old wharf shed on Cromford Canal - an old waterway that's part of Derbyshire's industrial heritage - makes a particularly good subject on this sunny, winter morning with a nip in the air and a slight ground frost.
I always enjoy this sort of subject, where what was once a busy working area has now been taken over by nature.
There's a slightly misty wooded background, tall birches, tangled reeds, and the dilapidated old building resting at the side of the once-busy canal.
There are plenty of challenges along the way employing a few different watercolour techniques, but it's very enjoyable to see the scene gradually take shape on the paper.
