2021 School of Character, Ames Community School District
Nominated with support from various community leaders, Ames Community School District has demonstrated good character with a commitment to equity and critical consciousness through a variety of projects and initiatives.
Yonas Michael, principal at Ames Middle School, will receive the 2021 Educator of Character Award. The Educator of Character Award is presented annually to one Iowa educator or school administrator that demonstrates good character. Described as a caring and compassionate leader, he shows good character by being fair, consistent, and transparent with his staff, students, and parents. Nominator Cappie Dobyns shares, “we have grown more courageous and ethical because Yona Michael’s belief in us has fueled our ability to believe in ourselves.”
