Join Ron Ananian The Car Doctor™ for some basic car care and maintenance advice. Ron's in the shop showing us some cabin filters in desperate need of replacement.
A cabin filter that Ron removed from a 2017 Toyota Corolla was poorly installed, squeezed on each side. Debris can easily bypass the filter and end up in the blower motor.
Another example from a Mazda is overloaded with dirt and debris. The heavy dirt can restrict the airflow and reduce heat and air conditioning, while forcing the system to work harder.
Lastly, a filter pulled from a 2014 Honda is full of acorns and reveals evidence of mice activity.
Ron recommends changing the filter every 15,000 miles, even sooner for areas that experience more smog and smoke.
