Zanskar
Zanskar is a remote and sparsely populated region in northern India that retains many of the cultural and religious traditions which share many attributes with Tibetan culture. The population is mostly Buddhist and there are many monasteries practicing as they have for many centuries. Until very recently this region has been very difficult to access. Even today, despite massive road construction projects, it is not an area that can be easily visited without extensive travel. The population is dependent on the diminishing water supply from the Himalayan glaciers, representing yet another challenging force in the retention of these peoples transitional ways of life.
