4 Vesta is a small minor planet in the asteroid belt. Despite being one of the largest objects in the asteroid belt, it is only a few hundred kilometers across, yet boasts an impressive geological history. NASA's Dawn spacecraft approached and studied Vesta in 2011, with its initial approach occurring from June to July 2011. The spacecraft spent over a year around the asteroid, leaving in September 2012, and captured many valuable images of the body. The images featured in this timelapse show the initial approach by Dawn and Vesta's rotation.
