The National Treaty Alliance (NTA) is an unincorporated association of First Australians and their supporters who believe in the development of a treaty between First Nations and non-Aboriginal Australia as the best way forward in accommodating the needs of all Australians in the future.
It aims to
1) Elevate the discussion about Makarrata and Treaty to the top priority in the context of the Albanese Government’s commitment to implement the “Uluru Statement’ in full.
2) Encourage genuine discussion and debate in initially the First Australian Community about the content and form of a Treaty with the First Australians that delivers real justice in legal. cultural and social terms.
3) Ensure broad-based Community consultations occur concerning any options that that are put forward.
4) Any consensus position on behalf of First Nations advanced to government or referendum should have the “full. Informed and prior consent” of First Nations People as defined by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples 2007 and be consistent with the treaty principles contained within that document.
5) Publish, Advertise and in other ways promote alternatives to the current “Voice” proposals
to Federal Parliament including
a) Lobbying Political Parties and individual politicians to support NTA proposals
b) Achieving maximum media coverage of enunciated positions
c) Making alliances with First Nation’s Organisations and Communities around the country
d) Reaching out to the International Community for support for First Nation’s causes.
6) Attract financial support to allow the NTA to achieve its objectives.
