In 1956, Dixie sponsored the NBC prize show Queen for a Day, hosted by Jack Bailey. As was the style for ads of that time, as part of the show Bailey himself takes a break to talk to the audience about the deliciousness and convenience of single-serving Dixie Ice Cream cups, "the ice cream treat that's neat to eat." The sponsor break closes with a title card reading "Not all ice cream cups are Dixie Cups, just the best ones."
In a comedy bit, Bailey also points out the collectible nature of the lids as a little boy in NY Yankees gear snatches the lid right out of his hands. In the 1950s, Dixie featured baseball players on the lids, making them very popular for kids to trade. More on the show: In each episode of Queen for a Day, 3 or 4 women were interviewed and one was chosen, by audience applause, to be crowned queen for the day and win prizes furbished by the show's sponsors. Currently, a primetime version of Queen for a Day is in development.
