So, the question on everyone's lips - Can a Pilchard Microphone?
Or, to put it another way, Can a Can Microphone?
Ok, what the tinned fish am I going on about? Do you even know what a Pilchard is? Well, in today's video, I attempt to turn an old tin can (which used to contain pilchards) into a lofi microphone.
We are going to take a cheap and readily available piezo contact microphone, attach it to a thin wooden plate, wire it to a 1/4 in mono jack and insert the lot into an empty tin can. The idea is to make a really dirty, lofi, hand-held mic out of very simple components. Then we'll use it to make some music.
Noisy is an understatement, but it works. In certain applications, I think this could be a useful little addition to the studio. It's a fun and simple little project. Maybe this will inspire you to try something similar.
