I told you dawg, I TOLD you. Disco Junk fucking rules.

As prophesied in my upload of their "Younger Louder and Snottier" cassette (   • DISCO JUNK - Younger Louder And Snottier  ), Disco Junk has blessed us with a premature release of their upcoming "Underage Punk" 7", which will be let loose upon the spike-studded masses by the end of the month (courtesy of Chicago's Hozac Records: https://hozacrecords.com/pre-order-di.... I had some... glowing thoughts on this record back when I first shared this band. I'd encourage you to go back and re-read that write-up if you wanted to capture some of that initial "wow" factor, but, honestly... that won't be necessary. I've gone on to listen to this album dozens of times since then, and the only thing that's really changed is that I'm now able to sing along to it in a shitty faux-Australian accent. I hope you realize just how embarrassing that is to admit.

Beyond the massive improvement in production value -- which was made possible by none other than Billy Gardner of the Ausmuteants and The Living Eyes --, Melbourne's Disco Junk has thankfully been spared from any hint of maturation since their "Younger Louder and Snottier" cassette, retaining the core values that makes Disco Junk as potent as always -- those core values of course being youthfulness, loudness, and... yeah, snottiness. With a preamble of caustic, metallic resonances, "Underage Punk" sharply pivots itself into an unadulterated frenzy of ear-rending powerchords and chest-thumping drumbeats, exuding an equal sense of recklessness and tight, concentrated memorability in a one and a half-minute long performance that knows no restraint. Harnessing the angst and anxiety-fueled impulses that only come natural to a teenaged youth, Billy Twyford -- the mastermind behind Disco Junk's smarm and charm -- belts out line after line of incendiary remarks, his words dripping with bitterness and contempt for everyone and everything around him, adding fuel the fires invoked by the band's destructive intensity. It's straight rock 'n' roll operating at its fullest capacity, complete with sleazy, squeal-prone licks and summery riffs, and I for one fully condone the auditorial devastation that ensues in these four tracks. After all, it's a much better avenue for catharsis than post-ironic Instagram memes and casual drug abuse.
