50% of young people do not condition their happiness on having a partner
Barcelona, April 23 (efesalud.com). 49.6% of young people in Spain believe they can have a satisfying life without having a sexual partner; an assessment that changes as people get older: for them, having a partner is synonymous with a full life, more so for men.
"Women place less importance than men on being in a relationship... I'm sure you didn't expect this!" points out Cecilia Bizzotto Echerri, a sociologist specializing in all types of sexual and romantic relationships.
Almost half of women responded that being in a relationship is "little or not at all important" to feeling fulfilled in their lives, while around 74% of men said that having a relationship is "very or quite important."
Are social values changing, and have young women in Spain deconstructed the ideal of the better half?
If women were once raised to be devoted wives and mothers, what has happened to make us now downplay the importance of our partners? Why this gap between generations and genders?

The data offered in the video blog is collected from the "Sexual and Couple Relationships" study conducted by the Center for Sociological Research, conducted between January 22 and 30, 2025, with a sample of 3,856 interviews.
Regarding the terms used to define or identify themselves, 85.4% of those who participated in the survey consider themselves heterosexual, 5.9% bisexual, and 2.8% homosexual.
