Abducted in the middle of the night with their parents' consent, they are taken to re-education camps where they are subjected to constant psychological, physical, and in some cases even sexual abuse.
This has been and still is the fate of many kids between the ages of 13 and 16, with paying parents who give up their parental rights to entrust their children to the so-called Troubled Teen Industry, a sector that generates billions of dollars every year.
Paris Hilton, who ended up in one of these camps, shared her experience, giving a voice to kids who haven't been heard.
"Legalized ab*si centers" are visible to everyone and even advertised on television.
The troubled teen industry has existed since the 1980s but has only been gaining attention in recent years, bringing truly shocking testimonies to light.
Steve Cartisano was a prominent figure in the "troubled teen industry," a sector that offers rehabilitation and re-education programs for adolescents with behavioral problems. In the 1990s, Cartisano founded several wilderness programs, such as the Challenger Foundation, promising parents that they would help their children overcome behavioral difficulties and addictions through outdoor experiences and survival skills.
However, his controversial approach has drawn considerable criticism. Extreme disciplinary practices and harsh conditions in his programs have led to numerous cases of abuse and even the deaths of some teenage participants. Following complaints and investigations, many of his programs have been closed, and Cartisano himself has faced legal prosecution.
The troubled teen industry is widely criticized for its lack of adequate regulation and oversight, which has led to numerous cases of physical and emotional abuse of young people. Many former participants have recounted traumatic experiences and systemic abuse, leading to a growing opposition movement and calls for reform to ensure greater protection and safety for the youth involved.
