[Slow commentary] The horror of the historic "Fukuoka University Wanguer Club Brown Bear Incident"
In July 1970, five students from the Wandervogel Club (then a club) at Fukuoka University were attacked by a wild animal. This incident is also known as the "Fukuoka University Wandervogel Club Brown Bear Incident."
The incident occurred on Mount Kamuiekuuchikaushi in the Hidaka Mountains in Hidaka County, Hokkaido. The students were relentlessly pursued by a female brown bear, ultimately resulting in three of them being devoured by the animal.
What caused this incident? It's a tragedy born of a lack of understanding of brown bear behavior, poor crisis management skills, and an obsession with summiting the peak.
