Developing Student Math Reasoning Skills
Students must understand that mathematics is more than a set of standard algorithms to be applied when directed. They must know the mathematics behind those algorithms. They cannot be left to strategies such as 'guess and check' without knowing why a 'guess' did nor did not work so that they can determine whether to replicate this approach later.
