A relatively brisk meeting with Attorney Rick Geller, a partner at Fishback Dominick who represents the City of Ocoee, subbing in for City Attorney Kurt Ardaman, who was away. Commissioner Colin Sharman of District 4 gave a nonsectarian invocation, a noticeable change of pace.

Other highlights:
The city proposed to annex 2-plus acres at 681 W. Plant Street from Orange County. It's the Century Link site, owned by the Lumen Corp. The city plans to change the land use designation and rezone the property to make it commercial rather than low density residential. The lot will be split with Lumen, which will continue operations. The city will purchase the other half. It has no development plans yet for the property. This will have a second reading on May 23.

City approved $150,036 for its consumptive use permit for potable water.

The city is assisting the Harbors neighborhood with cleaning up and repairing its stormwater pond, supplying $34,178.60 in funds to hire TD Thompson to do repairs. The homeowners association is underfunded, though it is raising rates and will maintain the pond once it's repaired.

Three special events were approved: Memorial Day at Veterans Park, May 27, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.; Juneteenth Community Celebration, June 15, 10 a.m to 1 p.m. City Park at 1203 E. Plant St.; American Legion Challenge 22 Ruck Walk Nov. 2, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 8 N. Highland Ave. @ 271 W. Plant St.

New appointments were announced for the Planning and Zoning and Architectural Review and Historic Preservation Boards.

On the retirement of Michael Caines as Fleet Division Manager, City Manager Jon Williams introduced new hire, "rock star" Dudley Watson.
