AFTER HOURS is a music series that features an eclectic range of musicians performing in iconic locations and studios at the University of Melbourne‘s Parkville campus.

For this unique 4th episode of AFTER HOURS we were joined by three musical artists balancing their studies at the University of Melbourne with writing and performing music. Each chatted with us about their process and played an original song, resulting in a sparkling set that spans genres, voices, and emotions.
DAVID KNIGHT – Bachelor of Arts, (second year majoring in philosophy and sociology)
Since age 11, David has been studying the guitar in all its forms. Now 29 and sitting somewhere between roots, folk and virtuoso, David has developed a unique style and method of performing with the instrument that has allowed him to tour at both national and international levels.
STELLA BRIDIE – Bachelor of Arts (Majoring is Sociology)
Melbourne-based singer/songwriter Stella Bridie writes music for the long walk home from the party. In 2019, she launched her first official single, “Dog Bite”, a catchy indie-rock track thrumming with passion, energy, and mild anxiety, which has amassed over 1,000,000 streams since its release. In 2020, she followed with the release of “My Girl”, a song "lush in its poetic and resonant themes" (Troublejuice). Her most recent release, “Alive”, is a bright, frenzied pop song about white-knuckling your way through the pain and desperately holding on to hope. Stella’s songwriting is uniquely authentic, blending keen melodic sensibility with narrative, emotive lyricism to connect to an overstimulated and underappreciated audience.
SYDNEY MILLER – Bachelor of Music in Interactive Composition (honours year)
Sydney Miller from Naarm is paving the way for a new and vibrant sound in her solo, self-titled act. Sydney’s production style has earnt early praise for its coverage of many diverse musical tastes; exhibiting a refreshing take on pop and dance genres whilst hinting at influences from countless others. 2022 has been a momentous year thus far for Sydney, witnessing the release of her debut EP The Inside, further consolidating her ability to execute music that stimulates a variety of tastes; and the launch of her eclectic and energetic live set. Her EP features singles such as “Out From The Inside” and “Bad News”, which received praise from the likes of Triple J Unearthed, and coverage on Triple J, RRR, SYN FM, FBI radio, Ditto, and rage. For now, Sydney continues playing new and old music for a variety of audiences, whilst chipping away at new music.
