There was a real Jan, about whom many stories were told. He was famous in West Cornwall until TV destroyed the story telling habit. Little remains of Jan's real life history so this is a fictional account conjured from a collection - of Jan Stone yarns. None of the characters are based on real people and any resemblance to anyone, living or dead, is unintentional.
Jan was born on an isolated farm and only joined the Board School at Newlyn after the pecking order had been established. His way of life was his own. It worked well enough on the farm but not in the rough and tumble of elementary education. Jan ended up at the bottom of the heap where he met Bill and Elsie who were to become his life long friends.
