Macmillan Cancer Relief in Cornwall are very grateful for the funds raised by this CD. Every year we need to raise £1.1 million in the county to fund our 23 specialist community Macmillan nurses, 3 hospital nurses, a specialist genetics nurse, 2 GP facilitators, a Macmillan pharmacist, physiotherapy and bereavement services, 3 day care centres, patient grants and an equipment loan service. In 2005 we started raising money to fund 3 new nurse development posts for the county and for a clinical nurse specialist working with head and neck cancer patients, to be based at Treliske.
Camborne Town Band is the most successful brass band in the county sustaining championship status for almost 60 years. The band has won the West of England finals on 20 occasions and the Bugle Band Contest 35 times. They have won The Royal Trophy at Bugle on 4 consecutive occasions since 2000 and regained the Championship again in 2005. Also on 4 consecutive occasions they have qualified for the National Finals in London. Steve Thomas has recently been appointed Musical Director of the band. Steve has also arranged some of the material for this recording.
The children of St Hilary School were delighted when Karen invited them to perform alongside her on this CD. They hope you will enjoy this, their first ever recording, whilst helping them to raise funds to support Macmillan Nurses in Cornwall. The choir & their conductor Debbie Retallick would like to thank Ceryl Humphries for her support, piano accompaniment and fun! Also Hancock Caffin Solicitors for their sponsorship whilst recording this CD.
Karen Hurn & Ceryl Humphries work very closely together performing throughout the country. They continue to support many charities through their music and perform regularly with some of Cornwall's leading Male Voice Choirs. Karen has recently taken her music abroad performing in Holland, Belgium & in 2005 she toured Australia. Karen sang at concerts in Adelaide, Melbourne and climaxing in performances at the Worlds Largest Cornish Festival ~ Kernewek Lowender on the Copper Coast of South Australia.
Using his keyboard skills, Roger Miners has beautifully crafted accompaniment to many of the tracks. Roger is one half of the successful local duo 'Fascination' who play throughout the South West.
Ceryl & I are thrilled to be making our second charity CD and to be supporting Momu We have again invited friends to record some of our favourite music and have both enjoyed recording some new songs together, we hope you enjoy them too! Many thanks to the artistes who have given freely of their time & talents to bring you this music selection.
