Laser therapy is a medical treatment that uses focused light to treat a variety of conditions. "Laser" stands for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation." The therapy works by emitting specific wavelengths of light that penetrate the skin and interact with tissues.

Depending on the type and wavelength of the laser used, laser therapy can be applied in various ways:

1. **Surgical Procedures**: Used to cut or remove tissue, such as tumors or moles, and in certain eye surgeries.
2. **Cosmetic Treatments**: Used for hair removal, tattoo removal, skin resurfacing, and to reduce wrinkles, scars, or blemishes.
3. **Pain Relief and Healing**: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is used to reduce pain and inflammation, promote wound healing, and treat musculoskeletal conditions like arthritis or tendinitis.
4. **Cancer Treatment**: Certain types of lasers can be used to destroy or shrink tumors.

The benefits of laser therapy include its precision, reduced damage to surrounding tissues, faster recovery times, and minimal invasiveness. However, like any medical procedure, it can have risks or side effects depending on the area treated, the type of laser used, and the patient's condition.
