Ancient Indian philosophy includes six major systems, each contributing uniquely to the understanding of reality and human existence. Nyaya focuses on logic and reasoning to acquire knowledge. Vaisheshika, founded by Kanada, categorizes existence into substances, qualities, and actions. Sankhya, attributed to Kapila, explores the dualism of consciousness (Purusha) and matter (Prakriti) for liberation. Yoga, from Patanjali's "Yoga Sutras," emphasizes meditation and discipline for self-realization. Vedanta, based on the Upanishads, seeks to understand the unity of the self (Atman) and ultimate reality (Brahman). Mimamsa centers on Vedic rituals and ethical duties (Dharma) as paths to spiritual goals. Together, these philosophies offer diverse approaches to understanding reality, knowledge, and spiritual growth.
