Super Mario Bros. is a 2D platformer game developed and published by Nintendo. It was released in October 1985 alongside the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the game had singlehandedly brought the video game market back on its feet after the infamous video game crash of 1983. It would also cement Nintendo as one of gaming's giant, and had led them to stick firmly to their consoles and handhelds manufacturing, competing with the likes of Sega, PlayStation and Xbox, with mixed results. In spite of their shortcomings in modern days, including threatening fan projects based on their IPs with lawsuits and developing underpowered systems outclassed by their competitors, the world of video gaming would not be where it is now without Super Mario Bros. and the huge impact it brought to gaming history.
