Man, I missed making synthwave/retrowave style stuff like this. Good to be back. I might’ve found a window or time slot that I can allot for making music, so who knows, consistent IV might become a thing (probably not). I tried something different kinda with the arrangement of this song. Like the chorus (spoiler alert, I guess) happens like 2 minutes into the song. Sorry y’all, might need to extend your attention spans for this one a bit, or don’t, it’s up to you of course. I do like the breakdown right before the chorus too. I also tried experimenting with white noise here. I used it as an extra tool for buildups and such, aside from the riser that I also used. Evidently, I gotta work on my creativity when it comes to my song titles. This one’s pretty similar to some of my other ones. We can pretend and call it a sequel, even though it’s not really one. I decided to name it A Journey’s End cause to me the chorus kinda sounds like a triumphant return, or finishing something daunting. Like reaching the top of a mountain to see the beautiful scenery of the place you call home, or receiving a grand hero’s welcome. Corny and cliché I know, my bad.
This song is definitely the one I spent the most time on. Since I only have the trial version of FL studio (for now), I decided to just leave my laptop on with the project open for awhile, just like last time. This lasted for like 4 days, from one Sunday to Wednesday. Between that and all the memory that was taken up by all the components on this one, man my laptop was really working. I put it through the ringer. This was a lot for my humble little Lenovo Ideapad. Honestly though a lot of the reason why it took so long was because I just could not for the life of me get the mixing and mastering right for this one. I think it was cause there were more moving parts on this one than I was used to, so the compression and stuff on different speakers had more of an effect on it. I’m not sure though, that’s just my theory. So for one reason or another, I couldn’t get it to sound how I wanted it to on different types of speakers. Even now after uploading I’m still not 100% satisfied with it. I’ll upload an alternate version of this with a slightly different mix, but still even that version I’m not completely sure about. Oh, and this song was actually made a few weeks back because like the song itself, the cover art was also something I could not get right for whatever reason. I was always making minor tweaks here and there, but eventually I settled on this version. I tried to make it look like a scene from a Gameboy Advance game, just cause. Me like old stuff. Old things cool me thinks.
Also, quick question, I know YouTube compresses audio, but do video editing softwares like Clipchamp do too? I don’t really have a trained ear to be able to tell, but if you’ve heard my music you probably already know that. Clipchamp is what I’ve been using to make these vids, but if they do compress audio I might have to switch.
