Although the best known urushiol containing plant to those who live in North America is poison ivy, Toxicodendron radicans, there are many plants worldwide that produce the rash producing substance. A particularly interesting one is the lacquer tree, Toxicodendron vernicifluum, from which the sap is collected to produce a lacquer that is used to finish wooden items - including bowls, plates, and chopsticks!
