The beautiful city of Durango (0:17) was founded by the Denver & Rio Grande Railway in 1879. The railroad arrived in Durango in 1881 and almost immediately construction of a line to the mining town Silverton began. Business was flourishing and in 1887 the luxurious Strater Hotel (0:33) was built. At the Strater, guests can still experience the Old West with today's comfort.
In Durango, you can also relive the travel experiences of past times: Step on a vintage coach of the Narrow Gauge Railroad (1:09) and travel to the old mining town Silverton (5:17) alongside deep precipices, waterfalls and the Animas river. Travel time is 3.5 hours for about 50 miles.
I've tried to capture parts of this great experience in my video. Enjoy!
