Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. It has been prominently featured in the Danny Boyle-directed movie "127 Hours" (2010), starring James Franco.
Nearby Horseshoe Bend is another of Mother Nature's little tricks in a whole world of sandstone and slick rock tricks. In this case, the Colorado River has formed a horseshoe-shaped meander.
Monument Valley belongs to the Colorado Plateau and features a cluster of vast sandstone buttes (their largest is 1,000 ft above the valley floor). Director John Ford used the location for a number of his best-known westerns, starring John Wayne. His film crews stayed in Harry Goulding's lodge which was eventually expanded to serve the tourists.
Ridley Scott's 1991 film "Thelma & Louise" features some shots of Monument Valley which also appears on the film's poster.
