Installing 50 tonne beams on the new Kāeo bridge
Check out this big beam being placed onto the new two-lane bridge we're building on State Highway 10 in Kāeo, north of Kerikeri. This video also shows the 450-tonne crane that's been brought in to lift these enormous beams onto the piers.
We're using 24 of these Super Tee beams to build the new bridge deck. Due to the complexity of the journey, we have to transport one 50-tonne beam at a time up from Auckland. The beams are 30 metres long, so getting them transported and placed takes a bit of time and patience.
We’re expecting to have the structure of the bridge finished by the end of the year, while also getting the road and roundabout ready for opening in early 2024.
