Diabetic neuropathy is a condition that occurs as a complication of diabetes mellitus. In people with diabetes, high blood sugar levels can damage nerves throughout the body. The primary focus of nerve damage occurs in the feet and hands.
Nerve damage caused by diabetic neuropathy can affect various aspects of nerve function, including sensation, motor function, and autonomic function. Impaired nerve sensation can cause numbness, tingling, or persistent pain in the feet and hands. This numbness can contribute to unnoticed injuries, especially to the feet, which can develop into ulcers or wounds that are difficult to heal. On this occasion, Dr. Rulli Rosandi, SpPD-KEMD, will explain the pathophysiology of diabetic neuropathy. The next meeting will discuss the diagnosis and therapy of diabetic neuropathy.
