Relaxed trainspotting in Kahl am Main – without railbuses
I was actually in Kahl to see a train consisting of multiple units of railcars – unaware that they were taking a different route. Instead, there's a diverse range of train traffic: local and long-distance services, and of course, some freight trains. And a few signals that are out of service.
Kahl am Main station is located on the line between Hanau and Aschaffenburg. The maximum speed on the line is 160 km/h, but only a small section (within Kahl station) is limited to 140 km/h because the station is situated on a curve.
The Kahlgrundbahn railway also branches off here, leading to Schöllkrippen, where the Westfrankenbahn operates a maintenance depot. Therefore, you can often spot transfer and maintenance runs here.
