Snapshot: circa 1909 was written in 2002 on commission for the Elements Quartet, who asked for a piece inspired by a photograph. The snapshot in question is an image of Corigliano's 8-year-old father and teenaged uncle performing a piece on violin and guitar. Here it is performed on 31 July 2021 by Nayoun (Blaire) Kim and Hina Khuong-Huu (violins), Alessandra Yang (viola) and Noam Ginsparg (cello) at Perlman Music Program on Shelter Island, New York.
