String Quartet No. 14, Opus 105 No. 2 - ii (Antonín Dvořák)
String Quartet No. 14 in A-flat major, Op. 105, B. 193 by Antonín Dvořák was completed in 1895 after the composer's visit to America. The second movement, a spicy F minor molto vivace, is a beautiful example of Dvořák's special gift for scherzos. Its pronounced syncopation and cross rhythms are thought derived from the Czech stomping dance called the furiant, a folk motif Dvořák used many times. Hannah Tam and Jacques Forestier (violins), Sidney Lee (viola) and Noam Ginsparg (cello). Performed in August 2021 at Perlman Music Program, Shelter Island, New York.
